Rotaractors Get Down & Dirty Painting Nells House!

Well, can we paint or can we paint!

Nells house is now officially completed and we are just waiting to hear if a family was settled in before Christmas. Over 3 weekends a large number of our club members have worked tirelessly with the Rotary Club of South Brisbane to get Nells house painted and renovated for a new family. Our last task, on the last weekend, was something a little fun. We set up a Christmas tree, complete with lights, tinsel, and baubles, in the living room of the house. This way the new family to move in will feel the spirit of Christmas the moment they step over the threshold.

Nells house is an old train masters house which has been cleaned up in order to provide crisis accomodation for needy families. Thanks heaps to South Brisbane Rotary for the awesome opportunity to help needy families in our area!! We look forward to future projects we do in collaboration with both Nells house and the Rotary Club of South Brisbane.

District BBQ

Projects No Comments »

On Saturday November 1st 2008, Kylie, Sian, Bella, and Alex attended the first District 9630 event – a BBQ at the Manly Foreshores. We had a fantastic time (though we did almost get blown away), and got to catch up with other Rotaractors in the district. It was a great turnout from all the clubs, with 5 members from Toowoomba, 4 from South West Brisbane, and 1 from both Redlands and Logan (as well as John and Sue), and a few prospective members.

We had a great afternoon eating, throwing the vortex, climbing the triangular ropes structure and just networking with our fellow Rotaractors and friends.

We look forward to the next event when we can all catch up again!!

Rotaract South Brisbane’s 5th week Social Night – A Spooky affair

On Friday October 31st we had a Halloween party at Caz’s place (thanks for the venue Caz)!! It was a fantastically spooky night; we even got a few screams as Reece scared people with his Dracula rendition, as they walked through the door!! Everyone (bar 1) put in a great effort and looked fantastic in their costumes. Kylie came as the very creepy Samara Morgan (from the Ring) – complete with her own well, and took out the best dressed prize. However well done to everyone who put in the effort to dress up, we had a few very original costumes, including the Halloween Spirit, Whatever happened to Jane and a Stepford wife!!

Thanks to Caz, Brooke, Tanya and Alex, for arranging the night, the decorations, and giving everyone enough lollies and candy to put them into a sugar coma!!

De de de de deeooww…. “When a big tree comes along you must Plant It!!!”

Levi, Renee, Kylie, Alex, Elizabeth & Sis, Laura, Tessa, Lauren, Brooke and Nicola represented the Rotaract Club of South Brisbane on Saturday for the clubs 1st mass Tree Planting. We participated in this event held in association with the brisbane city council and the local community at Joachim Street Park Holland Park West. Rotaractors were out in fine style despite darstedly hang overs from the halloween party the previouse night and were seen to add a particular edge to the event by singing renditions of the 1980’s cult classic “Whip It” with “plant it” & “dig it” insertions where appropriate. Good times and “Three Free Trees” were had by all! Cant wait for the next one!!
