About Us
What is Rotaract?
Rotaract is a worldwide organisation of young men and women ages 18 to 30* who believe they can make a difference. A Rotaract Club is more than just a community service club. It is part of a global effort to bring peace and international understanding to the world. This effort starts at the community level, but it knows no limits in its outreach.
Through community and international service projects, Rotaractors help improve the lives of the people around them. In so doing they develop skills of management and organisation. They also learn teamwork, and establish a network of peers and friends.
Although each Rotaract Club has a sponsoring Rotary Club, the Rotaract members are responsible for organising themselves and developing their own projects and activities.
One of the most exciting aspects of Rotaract is the opportunity to meet new friends and acquaintances in your own locality, across the state and even worldwide. No matter what type of activity Rotaract members involve themselves in, whether it be working together or a purely social event, we can always manage to make it enjoyable.
The Purpose and Goals of Rotaract
Any group who intends to make a worthwhile contribution or achievement must begin with an idea or goal to aim for.
The purpose of a Rotaract Club is to provide young men and women with an opportunity to enhance the knowledge and skills that will assist them in personal development, to address the physical and social needs of their communities, and to promote better relations between all people worldwide through a framework of friendship and service.
The Six Goals of Rotaract
- To develop Professional and Leadership skills.
- To emphasise respect for the rights of others, based on the recognition of the worth of each individual.
- To recognise the dignity and value of all useful occupations as opportunities to serve.
- To recognise, practice and promote ethical standards as qualities and vocational responsibilities.
- To develop knowledge and understanding of the needs, problems and opportunities in the community and worldwide.
- To provide opportunities for personal and group activities to serve the community and promote international understanding and goodwill.
These goals can be used as a checklist for the individual and also for the Club, to make an outgoing evaluation about how effective Rotaract is in achieving its aims.
